I am really grateful for all of Bette’s teaching but I thought in particular the different cycles of death & resurrection through Jesus were really helpful to name.
I was struck by the idea that vines are self-pollenating. Branches from the vine can pollenate other branches on the same vine. That's helping me think about how community works in the Kingdom of God.
I'm thanking God for a space to really meditate on abiding in Jesus in all sorts of ways! I loved our sessions.
Bette's prophetic reminder about the importance of 'who we are becoming as we abide in the true vine' was critical as we enter a new ministry year filled with many tasks. The life cycle diagram of roots, branches and fruit gave us a framework for diagnosing what season of ministry and life we currently occupy.
With tenderness and agility, Bette took our community on a journey through the spiritual life cycle of the vine. We were invited to engage all of our senses in creative practices that unlocked new insights about God, ourselves, and the ministry we steward on campus. Bette graciously and skillfully guided us back to God, the loving vinedresser, one who is less concerned with our productivity than the quality of who we are becoming together.
